A quick and delicious Japanese beef bowl recipe, featuring tender beef, caramelized onions, and a perfectly runny egg over steamed rice.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare all ingredients.

  2. 2

Use a pasteurized egg for safety, especially if you prefer a runny yolk.

  3. 3

Slice the onion and carrot into thin strips.

  4. 4

Mix the sauce: 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 0.5 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tbsp cooking wine, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp cornstarch, a pinch of salt, 120 ml water, and a pinch of black pepper.

  5. 5

Melt butter in a pan for added flavor.

  6. 6

Sauté the onion and carrot until soft.

  7. 7

Add the beef slices and stir-fry until they change color. If preferred, blanch the beef first.

  8. 8

Once the beef is cooked, add the sauce and stir until thickened. Set aside.

  9. 9

In a non-stick pan, heat a little oil and fry the egg for less than a minute for a runny yolk.

  10. 10

Place the egg on top of a bowl of hot rice, add the beef and vegetables, and garnish with green onions and sesame seaweed flakes. Enjoy your comforting and flavorful gyudon!
